More from the Girls

Palenque
The temples of Palenque stood tall with steep steps leading to the top.  As we explored the ruins we saw images of Chac, the Maya God of Rain, some of the original paint and graffiti from the early civilization of the Maya.
We saw a toilet that only the Maya nobles would have used and walked through tunnels that led to the underworld.  At the top of the Cross Temple, Maggie gave her presentation about the Maya.  She explained the three different Maya calendars and their cycles.  It was a full day of learning, climbing stairs, and even a bit of souvenir shopping.  -Simone, Senior, WA

San Cristobal Band shell
The first night that we were in San Cristobal after dinner, we were set loose on the town.  Eliza, Anna, Ava, Simone and I walked the one block to the Cental Plaza.  In the middle of the park there was a raised cement platform with a band playing.  W eran up the stairs onto the platfor, paused for a minute watching the people dance.  Eliza and I joined in and started to use the salsa skills we learned at El Portal in Guatemala.  The others joined in and we danced until the song ended.  We laughed as we walked back to the restaurant for check in time. -Mikaela, Sophomore, CT
